WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY
At Asolo we believe that all the small steps we do lead us to a more sustainable impact.
In the World Environment Day we are pleased to present the efforts and commitment we are making with our quotidian actions to help preserving our Earth.
For us, sustainability means taking into account the environmental and social impacts that are generated by our business.
ASOLO CORPORATE RESPONSABILITY
Asolo has a Corporate Responsibility document that reflect how the company built a sustainable supplier management system that guarantees fair, environmentally sound manufacturing conditions as well as products free of or low hazardous substances.
Leather Selection
The leather used by Asolo is mainly from European cattles. More, Asolo select suppliers whose environmental and socially responsible production philosophy aligns perfectly with Asolo. We request to all our leather suppliers the LWG certification (Leather Working Group) or the Oeko Tex Certification.
Leather Working Group (LWG) is an organization made up of brands, suppliers, leather producers and other entities within the leather manufacturing industry. The organization has developed a verification and control program that certifies the leather production plants based on their environmental compliance and performance capabilities. In the Asolo collection, 94% of the products with leather contents use LWG certified leather.
Oeko Tex Certication: is a registered trade mark, representing the product labels and company certifications issued and other services provided by the International Association for Research and Testing in the Field of Textile and Leather Ecology (which also calls itself Oeko-Tex for short). Oeko-Tex labels and certificates confirm the human-ecological safety of textile products and leather articles from all stages of production (raw materials and fibres, yarns, fabrics, ready-to-use end products) along the textile value chain.
Durability and Repairs
An essential environmental advantage of products comes from their long-lasting durability. All Asolo products are thought, designed and engineered to get resoled. This give a second life to our boots and shoes and we always promote and educate our Team, customers and end-consumers to the repair and resoling service rather than to waste and throw away.
At Asolo since the beginning we have always offered the resoling service, but today we made a step forward being the first Outdoor brand who digitalized this service. Today, all our partners and end-consumers can access to the resoling service directly from here:
We also calculate the possible impact that resoling has in carbon footprint reduction:
- A cow raised on a farm produces around 2 tons of carbon dioxide every year.
- We must consider that these cattle have an average life of 6 years.
- This means that a cow produces an average of 12 tons of CO2 over a 6-year period.
- Taking into consideration that with the skin of a cow, Asolo produces an average of 7.35 pairs of shoes, this means that the ratio of a pair of shoes corresponds to approximately 1,6 tons of CO2.
From the beginning of 2022 till today we have resoled 455 pairs of shoes for our consumers and if we multiply these pairs by the CO2 that is created, we can say that we have contributed to a non-emission of CO2 equal to 743 tons.
Our target for this year is to resole 1.500 pairs of shoes during 2022 which will allow us to reduce the CO2 emissions by approximately 2,450 tons.
Made in Europe
As an industry leader in the age of globalization, Asolo emphasis its “Made in Europe” philosophy. Asolo produces the majority of its products (70%) in Europe and from European sourced materials which allows precise and direct control over the social and environmental practices used in production.
Engineering of a product
Every new product is studied, designed and engineered to minimize the conceptions of materials and to optimize the production. Everything starts from the design - our specialized Team of shoes design draw and project with a view of reducing consumptions already from the start. The main goal is to create a product that consumes less material, facilitates the production process and therefore pollutes less while lasting longer and can get repaired or resoled. For this, Asolo is determinate to keep and improve the know-how of his headquarter facility keeping everything in one place and stimulating the Teamwork and collaboration between all the company departments in order to engineer new products that consume less.
Led Lights
At Asolo we believe that all the small steps lead us to a more sustainable impact. For this, we decided to make an important investment in our Headquarter and to change all the lights internal and external the building. From standard lights we moved to LED Lights and there are five important benefits that LED bulbs bring:
Less energy: LED bulbs use less electricity than all the other lighting devices. Furthermore, LED lighting allows savings up to 90% compared to old incandescent bulbs.
Long lasting: one of the main benefits of LED lighting is the life of the bulbs which is far greater than others products belonging to the same category. A light LED bulb should last approximately 50.000 hours compared to the incandescent ones whose duration is around 1.500 hours.
Better light: LED lights are now at a better level as light than the fluorescent bulbs which need time to warm up and so they consume more.
Safer technology: the issue with other bulbs is the amount of mercury in them which makes them difficult to dispose. LED bulbs are completely safe and do not overheat when turned on.
Eco friendly: LEDs use less energy and therefore contribute to the reduction of CO2 emission associated with electricity generation. Furthermore, they do not contain dangerous materials such as lead and mercury. More, the production process is also more eco-friendly than that for other bulbs.
Re-use
Since the beginning Asolo reduces and recycle its packaging - using the same packages for not wasting them.
Romania Headquarter
The new production facility was built with environmentally friendly materials and is self-sufficient in energy terms also thanks to a home automation system to reduce waste. Asolo RO has also been assessed by Intertek, a leading Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide with a network of more than 1,000 laboratories and offices and over 43,800 people in more than 100 countries, as conforming the requirements of Workplace Conditions Assessment. Asolo RO met the performance criteria required the “Achievement Award”; the evaluation was made on these company areas: Labour, Wages and Hours, Health and Safety, Management System and Environment.
Company Transportation
We organize company transportation (bus) which collect our Team and bring them to the work-place. By today the percentage of employees coming to work by company transportation or bike versus personal car are 162 people (70%).
Working hours
Since five years we reviewed the working hours in our Headquarter reducing the lunch break and anticipating the exit time. This new structure has guaranteed a double effect: on one hand a significant improvement in the management of time to devote to the personal life, on the other hand a reduction in energy consumption through the anticipated closure of the structure.
