WOMEN AND MOUNTAINS

«When sleeping women wake, mountains will move
Chinese proverb

As the proverb says, Women are able to demonstrate and use their inner strenght and awareness to make a difference in the world. Many Women recognize the mountains as their source of inspiration and the outdoor the place where they could be themselves.

In 2025 International Women Day we decided to investigate how women experience the mountains and we asked some women from Asolo community to tell us their relationship with the mountains.

AYELEN

«As a woman hiking mostly solo, I've developed a profound respect for the elements in the mountains, being more cautious, observing how it constantly shifts. To be prepared is key! Good gear and mentally fit makes me feel strong & enjoy the journey every time, no matter what emotions I carry with me, I always return happy from a hike!»

ANNE

«Being in the mountains is where I feel most alive and connected to nature, with every step of the journey adding a different layer to the experience. The challenge on my body to reach the summit pushes my physical ability and makes me strong. The views across an isolated valley or moorland leave me in awe of the beauty of nature but also liberated that I can visit and experience these places alone. The silence, the sound of water rushing through a stream or the beautiful bird song high above clears my mind of otherwise busy and unnecessary thoughts. I feel so privileged to be able to explore these places.»

«The mountains are where I feel most free. There’s something so rewarding about climbing mountains - it’s symbolic to overcoming hard times and celebrating life. It’s somewhere I can be truly present and a place where I can take a moment to breathe. It’s where I feel strong and grateful for my body that allows me to climb to summits to enjoy the views. The mountains remind me of home.»
